Open Hearts Art Center is a day-center serving Buncombe County adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Located in West Asheville, the organization provides them with community, creative expression, and income from the sale of their artwork. Combined, these facets of a healthy, productive and independent life further benefit the artists of Open Heart who thrive in an environment that celebrates each individual’s voice and verve through visual and performing arts.

Three women had a vision to empower adults with developmental, mental, physical and emotional disabilities and where better for a beautiful idea like this to take root than in the beautiful mountain city of Asheville, NC? Debbie Dearborn, Jessie Francis and Sonia Pitts founded the Open Hearts Art Center and opened it’s doors to a partnering of exceptional teachers and enthusiastic students.
